The pendulum impact model IT -300 is designed for conducting izod, charpy test. The test methods confirm to IS: 1598-1977, is 1973, IS: 1499-1977 and IS; 3766-1977 as well as BS; 131 – PART 1, 2, 3 & 4-1972.
The Pendulum is mounted on antifriction bearings. It has two starting positions, the upper one for Charpy and the pendulum swings down to break the izod testing. On release, the pendulum swings down to break the specimen and the energy absorbed in doing so is measured as the difference between the height of drop before rupture and the height of rise after rupture of the test specimen and is read from the position of maximum pointer on the dial scale.
The energy utilized to break izod or Charpy specimen the position of the maximum pointer on the dial. There are two large angular scales on the dial, inner for izod test and outer for Charpy scale with 300 J x 2 J as minimum graduation.
CONTROLS OF PENDULUM
The pendulum is supported in the starting position by a self resetting latch. The Charpy release mechanism is operated by lever. The pendulum release latch is operated only when this lever is operated.
STRIKERS & SUPPOETS
There are two strikers and one combined support available for fitting into the pendulum and onto the base of the machine for Izod, Charpy test, changing from one striker to another is achieved simply by unbolting the new striker into its position.
The Izod test piece is clamped vertically in Izod support fitted on to the base of the machine, the support is provided with a machined vertical groove to suit the test piece size. The front clamp piece and the Allen screw enable clamping of the test piece in correct height with help of Izod setting gauge supplied.
The charpy test piece rests on alloy steel support anvils, fitted on to the base of the machine rigidly held in position by alien screws. End stopper is provided for quickly and accurately locating the test piece centrally between the supports.
